The USA almost doubled its production of natural gas in the last decade through the shale gas (MME, 2015). Leading the country to be the world's largest producer of natural gas (BP, 2014). The growth of natural gas production in the USA is causing in geopolitics and geoestratégias implications of importing and exporting countries of natural gas. There is no doubt that so-called "shale gas revolution", generating debate among energy experts. This article seeks to raise this energy debate among experts, showing the doubts surrounding the production and reserves of shale gas in the USA. Another important factor is linked to the impacts on health and the environment, due to its method of operation, through hydraulic fracturing. The results show that there is a lot of controversy among experts, that Brazil needs to open a great energy debate in society, before any exploration of shale gas.
