Literature Review and Bibliometric Analysis of Scientific Articles on Environmental Certification in the Last 30 Years

Abstract

In recent decades, given increasing social pressure in favor of an environmentally sustainable stance, companies, if they wish to be part of a highly competitive universe, need to incorporate actions and practices aimed at environmental conservation into their market strategies. In this context, Environmental Certification emerged, whose main objective is to signal to consumers which products result from environmentally sustainable processes and their substitutes. The objective of this work was to conduct a quantitative investigation, mapping, and exploration of the scientific production of researchers in Environmental Certification, the content of which was materialized in the form of digital articles and published in the SPELL - Scientific Periodicals Electronic Library database. The main results indicate that: (1) scientific production in Environmental Certification has shown constant growth compared to the first year of the research; (2) the authors found did not continue their research in this area, because 92% of the authors published only 1 article on the subject; (3) The journals with the highest number of published research papers are: REAd. The Electronic Journal of Administration and the Journal of Business Administration together produced 10 articles, representing 1.49% of the total. This work suggests that future studies should conduct new research using qualitative techniques aimed at deepening the understanding of the real difficulties experienced by researchers in the production and publication of their work.
